Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. It has been a part of the Illinois insurance landscape since 1936. With a members of more than 8.1 million, it is the largest health insurance company in the state of Illinois.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois is part of the Health Care Service Corporation, and is a regional network of Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, offering medical and dental coverage. BCBS IL offers several networks, including lower cost narrow networks specific to the Chicago metro. Companies can choose to offer up to 6 plans, 3 PPO plans and 3 HMO plans. PPO plans provide national coverage through the Blue Cross Blue Shield BlueCard network. BCBS IL rates are among the most competitive in most areas of Illinois.

BCBSIL provides financial support to 501(c)(3) organizations in the form of grants or sponsorships. It supports organizations that promote health and wellness and work with underserved Illinois residents.
